The Govee app, while stuffed with fun effects, is neither easy nor pleasant to use, mainly because it’s also stuffed with ads and has limited functions outside of its effects. As mentioned, Matter support means this light strip can work in any Matter-compatible platform, including Apple Home — a first for Govee. If you are just looking to add some ambient light around the house and aren’t as interested in creating lots of flashy effects across multiple lights, the Tapo light strip is cheaper and longer. There are a few different models, and Govee does not do a great job of differentiating, so to be clear, we’re talking about the H6008 bulb. Featured App Control: The Govee Home app allows extensive customization and management of LED light strips over music modes, scene modes, DIY effects, timer, and much more function via 30M Bluetooth connection.

Calibration: Some Govee smart lighting, such as the TV or gaming syncing products, requires a calibration process to work properly. This wasn’t at all clear, so I asked Govee about it, and they told me this was a warning not to switch networks on your phone when using the light as you will lose control of the device.
