About this deal

The HarmonicDyne Athena is the fifth major headphone release from the company, and it has applied a number of lessons here. As such, dynamic slam through kick drums, piano keystrokes, and plucked bass strings benefited from the design. It would have been nice to get a storage case that is a little more protective than the bag, especially as the headphones lay flat, but as long as the savings have gone into the headphones themselves, then I am not complaining.

a small digression: it’s been quite some time since I last wrote a review about a pair of dynamic headphones, so it’s high time I rectify that! The bass has the energy distributed evenly throughout the bass, with a good amount of both sub and mid bass, and a fair amount of upper bass too. These mostly work well in the grand scheme of how the Athena is tonally tuned, but there were a few moments where I thought the Athena was not perfectly neutral in the midrange game.

Great effort was made on making the cable so that it could improve the full responsive range and give you the joy of noise-free and pure listening.Additionally, a mild upper midrange dip reduces hardness but can lack air and articulation at times. From signal to vibration to the lovely melody you enjoy, Athena is skillful in this conversion with utmost efficiency, all thanks to the ultra-fine voice coil and flux magnetic driver system.

In my case, the foam layers inside the box are coming unglued, which doesn’t exactly give the packaging a premium feel but the headphones are well protected. The HE400SE is a lot more resolving, more tightly controlled, extends deeper, impacts more (somehow), and smoother in general with a larger soundstage. However, bass-heavy genres like EDM and hip-hop might over-emphasize the Athena's low-end, compromising detail and control. Optimal weights were determined through randomized and programmed self-test iterations wi They’re already larger than the 40mm (or smaller) drivers you’ll find populating most mainstream headphones from the United States, and can create a large, full-bodied sound.

But while the Ghost clearly seemed to be emulating Sennheiser, the Athena is much more its own unique product and is better for it. MeasurementsAs usual, I encourage readers to carefully note several key points regarding my measurements. The sound of B60 is actually a bit forward in the midrange too, and has a full, deep bass, but the treble of B60 has much less impact and also fatiguing edge when compared to Athena. They’re lighter weight and feel less premium as a result of all of that plastic, but the upside is that they’re more comfortable to wear and don’t necessarily feel any less durable.
