About this deal

The Rune Primer is probably the only book on rune magic out there where the author goes out of his or her way to separate factual information from the sources on the one hand and intuitive insights on the other, and to eschew the latter in favor of the former as much as possible. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. I had no idea about Norse mythology, runes, or using runes as a way of esoteric art- but loved the very non-occult approach Blum took with this. Dive into the marvellous world of runes with Northern Black's "Runes, Sigils and Bindrunes", expertly crafted by Peter Oakmund Madsen.

Read the intro guys- all the negative reviews here were clearly laid out by Blum himself in the introduction to the book. The Emergence of the Runes; The Oracle of the Self; Consulting the Oracle; Runemal: The Art of Rune Casting; Interpreting the Runes; Theatre of the Self; Afterword: Magic in the Present tense; Selected Bibliography; Guides to the Transformational Process; What Comes Next? But I have been using this set for over 15 years, with many many people as well, not just for myself, and it's astoundingly helpful and accurate. On the other hand, Blum is honest about what he's doing and that the form of divination he's invented is one that's based on intuition. Find out about the history of runes, which are more than 2,000 years old and formed the sacred alphabet of the Germanic people of Northern Europe. And, because of the bad etching on my rose quartz set which made it hard to use as Viking Runes, I had been promising myself a new set. El único detalle para mí es que menciona mucho a Dios (el católico) cuando en las runas están relacionadas con los dioses nórdicos.

You'll be amazed at the connection between the rune you pulled and how it relates to your life at that moment (most importantly to those things plaguing your thoughts at the time you pulled it from the bag). Suffice it to say that if you want a deeper look at the esoteric meanings behind the runes, both for general knowledge and for the reasons of divination (that is to say, analysis of one's situation via the tools of symbology as a means to think about something in a different way), this might not be the book for you.Likewise, the 17th rune, Tiwaz, shares its significance with the North Star as an aid to navigation and charting life's path. He was the resident astrologer for BBC Radio Wales and authored many books on a diverse range of subjects including astrology, tarot, and feng shui, as well as historical works on Ancient Egypt and the history of prophecies. To make sure you’re not aimlessly spinning your wheels or inadvertently doing counterproductive or even dangerous things in your rune workings, however, Runecaster’s Handbook still provides at least some basic theory. Usually it is some thing (or someone) to whom there is an intense emotional bond, and through which, in some way, the individual is living a part of his life – a part that should be retrieved so that he can live it out for himself.

However, if you want to gain insight into another person's use of the oracle, or just identify as a knowledge sponge, I'd say that much of this book is worth reading. Mercury […] is primarily the symbol of the urge to understand, to integrate unconscious motive with conscious recognition ( Greene, pp. The book is based on academic studies but presents the three runic systems in an accessible manner, allowing the readers to delve deeper into the meaning of each individual rune as well as gaining a better understanding of how the runic systems have evolved. Many will say the meanings are not correct, but they are actually quite close and quite good for a brief understanding. These designs range from simple two-letter bind-runes to complex, full-page layouts, each imbued with extensive meaning and purpose. I'm not sure Blum would identify himself as a choate, but his use of the I Ching and Viking Runes, divorced from their cultural context, would fit nicely into theoretical field of chaos magick.

If you accept this premise you are not likely to be led astray either by Blum's use of the ancient runes or by the unimaginative criticisms of many of his reviewers. Fries’s book is a thoughtful, perhaps even “existential” guide to the runes in the context of, in the book’s words, “pagan nature religion.

I have recently felt the need for a more in depth understanding of the runes and have discovered Edred Thorsson's books on the subject. This specialised guidebook takes you on a magical journey, exploring the Elder Futhark as powerful symbols, delving into the enigmatic Icelandic esoteric sigils, and simplifying the intricate concept of bind-runes. Just remember - all the answers are already inside you; it's the job of an oracle to help you access them.
