Description

Based in Angus, Gin Bothy was founded in 2015 by drinks entrepreneur Kim Cameron. Using traditional methods of production every bottle is numbered, batched and poured by hand. Gin Bothy is now one of Scotland’s premium gin brands, producing 60,000 units in 2020. The combination of John’s love of the outdoors with his passion for writing and performance makes him a uniquely powerful storyteller. In his writing, John tells tales of his travels in the mountains, in his performance he talks of the profound relationship between men and wild places.

Alex Spink and Sons have been making smokies in Arbroath since 1977. They worked with Gin Bothy Founder, Kim Cameron applying their traditional smoking techniques to juniper, orange peel, coriander and lemon which were then distilled, creating the Gin Bothy’s first smoked gin. I love walking and camping, although haven’t had the delight(?) of sleeping in a bothy yet. I’m also familiar with the areas Burns writes about. I’ve driven many a time through Glen Coe. I’ve stayed in Loch Carron and eaten at Spean Bridge. In a world where these places have become forbidden to visit reading about them was equally painful and wonderful. While we hope to resume hosted tastings at The Bothy Experience in Glamis soon, our virtual tastings bring the atmosphere of our 4-star visitor attraction to you! Some virtual tastings are open to the public, but if your group has 10 or more boxes you can book a private tasting. Just give us the details of everyone taking part when booking and we'll send their Bothy At Home boxes directly to their door! Bothy Butter will be produced using a butter-churner and a 45-year-old recipe that were acquired from the recently-closed North Street Dairy in Forfar - the last Angus family-run dairy.Further clues lie in the texture. Jam has lumpy, homely texture. Often it's more rustic, containing whole pieces of fruit and seeds. Jelly on the other hand, has a smooth but firm texture and looks glossy and clear. From remote glens deep in the Scottish Highlands, John D Burns brings a new volume of tales – some dramatic, some moving, some hilarious – from the isolated shelters mountain people call bothies. John has taken his one man plays to the Edinburgh Fringe and toured them widely around theatres and mountain festivals in the UK. John ‘s first play, Aleister Crowley: A Passion for Evil attracted great audiences in the Edinburgh Fringe of 2010.

I saw alcohol as an additional tool to silence my thoughts, but it ended up becoming a bit more of a poison,” says Harrison. The Gin Bothy started out as the Jam Bothy, where we made fruit jams from local berries. Instead of wasting the leftover juices, we began infusing gin and our Raspberry Gin was born. Citrus: orange is high in pectin therefore perfect for jam. Orange jam and marmalade are different beasts, with marmalade only using the citrusy peel.

If you have a special occasion coming up, why not book a tasting to celebrate? Our private tastings are perfect for birthdays, hen or stag parties! The bride, groom or guest of honour will receive their box for free if you book 15 boxes or more. FANS of hillwalking adventures and lost family history-inspired novels will be able to meet their favourite award-winning authors when they come to Elgin Library next week. Eleanor Thom and John D Burns will be appearing at Elgin library next week.

Kim used leftover fruit juice from her homemade jam to lead the charge for the creation of Scottish flavoured spirits with the launch of her Gin Bothy Raspberry Gin.
