stars is probably a little generous--as one reviewer here notes, the book runs out of steam in the second half. Her first leading role was in Six Days Seven Nights (1998)—which has remained her most high-profile film role to date. Say what you will about soap operas and soap acting, there was a lot of good back in the day with the cast of Another World being a stand-out in the late '80s and early '90s. And yet her true legacy may have been her willingness to break from convention, follow her own rules and refuse to be defined by the evils she suffered in early life.

The marriage ended in divorce and in 2009, Heche had another son, Atlas, with James Tupper, her Men in Trees co-star.I skimmed most of the book (which was thankfully a short book) however I would have abandoned the book early on otherwise. Heche did not play the role of a sister in Walking and Talking, or in Birth; she played the best friend and the sister-in-law of Catherine Keener’s and Nicole Kidman’s characters respectively. Six Days, Seven Nights in 1998 was, in particular, overshadowed by her decision to go public the previous year about her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.

Anne Heche had been in a very public same-sex relationship and then had a notorious meltdown as the relationship came to an end in which she wound up at a stranger's home in Fresno, California, half-naked, high and asking to take a shower before her spaceship took her to a higher dimension. A beautifully written and evocative memoir of pain and redemption, of hurt and healing, from an actress whose private life and personal choices have made her a household name. I wish she had lived long enough to have more of a public "rehabilitation" (something more satisfying than a brief stint on Dancing with the Stars), becoming better appreciated by all of us for her talent and verve. She proceeded to tell me that she was God and was going to take everyone back to heaven with her in some sort of spaceship," one Fresno deputy wrote in a report at the time. Her split with DeGeneres led to a defining moment in her career: an incident in which Heche was hospitalized after wandering through a rural part of Fresno County in a discombobulated state and winding up at a stranger’s house. I saw the most ravishing woman I had ever seen in my life standing across the room,” Heche said in 2001. She is a funny, "Crazy", insightful woman who has struggled, and survived so much I have to give her some credit. It was interesting enough that I found myself not wanting to put it down but thought she could have explained things more.

THE NATIONAL AND "NEW YORK TIMES" BESTSELLERAs an actress, she lives in the world of illusion made to seem real. She wanted nobody to suffer the pain she had suffered, and a lot of what she shared was her own survival tools she wanted to share with others.

On Friday evening, Heche’s eldest son, Homer, 20, released a statement on behalf of himself and his half-brother, Atlas, 13.

Don Heche was a Baptist minister and church organist – and a closeted gay man who would die of Aids in 1983, shortly after coming out to his family (Heche contracted genital herpes as a result of his abuse). At one point, she believed herself to be a heavenly messenger from a "fourth dimension" of pure love; looking back, she realizes that this insanity was her subconscious way of surrounding herself with the love she craved, after being coldly rejected by her family. The two of them share a personality and ability to face the world in a way that I feel like I have and would want portrayed," she said. Abi and Nathan were members of the swim team and won ribbons at all of the meets, where they would chug pink Jell-O sugar before they dove into the frosty waters.

In telling the whole story – whether you like it, don't like it, think I'm insane, think I'm sane – you'll see we are on a journey that is an individual process toward healing ourselves, I believe. We dutifully did everything we were told and didn't question when Dad was out of town on business for weeks at a time, because we didn't want to get beaten with a spoon. Heche's father also disappeared for weeks at a time (she later learned he was stealing away to have homosexual affairs) and rarely seemed to be employed. I regretted seeing her leave the show, but I was pleased that she succeeded, first in a supporting role in the early '90s Hallmark Hall of Fame movie version of Willa Cather's O Pioneers!
