Compared with Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic, we've significantly upgraded the imaging performance of the Mavic 3 Pro Series:

I have to confess that when I first heard that the Mavic 3 Pro was likely to include three cameras, I was skeptical about how effective and useful the two telephoto cameras would be. This was simply down to the fact that the Mavic 3 telephoto camera was extremely limited at launch, to the point of being pretty much pointless. Then with the Mavic 3 Classic, which had a few reductions in video specs, including the removal of the Apple ProRes format for video, it felt like DJI might be giving up on the multi-camera approach. For many pilots, perhaps most of them, this is more than enough. ( Here’s our launch review and video if you’re curious.) The extra hovering time available combined with the number of options available does encourage hovering with eyes away from the aircraft which isn’t an approach recommended by many aviation authorities. Tested with a production model DJI Mavic 3 in a closed environment in favorable conditions and an unobstructed wireless signal. Actual results may vary depending on environment, usage, and firmware version.

With its low latency, higher resolution and greater range compared with OcuSync 2.0, we’d expect a minimum of OcuSync 3.0 – if not, possibly, the next generation. We also theorize (and we could be wrong here) that any drone equipped with OcuSync 3.0 should be compatible with the Goggles V2. It’s really just a question of whether DJI would want to enable that. So let’s recap. The drone will hopefully be released by late September. We anticipate it will include: Our source in China says the Mavic 3 Pro will “definitely” have a rear-mounted battery. Mavic 3 Pro features recap While the Mavic 3 is an absolute powerhouse in terms of features and image quality, DJI is well-known for producing both safe and easy to fly drones and this drone, despite the high price tag, could present a fantastic option for first-time drone pilots. This is certainly a drone that you can grow into as your flight skills and requirements improve, and investing in a higher level model can ultimately save money over the long term because it can reduce the need to upgrade at a later date. Although for many, the DJI Mini 2 and Air 2S models provide compelling alternatives.

Supported by the DJI Mavic 3 Pro Hasselblad camera and 70mm medium tele camera only. The 70mm medium tele camera only supports shooting Sphere panoramas but cannot generate panorama photos. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro was tested over several days of flying in a range of locations, environments and weather conditions (excluding rain) to test flight performance, flight features, overall handling and image quality for both photo and video capture. All testing is conducted in a way that meets local aviation laws and restrictions to ensure that all flights are safe and legal. The first thing that strikes you about the Mavic 3 Pro is the size of the camera and gimbal, which is naturally larger than those found on the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic models because it houses three cameras. In terms of design, there’s no mistaking its Mavic lineage thanks to excellent build quality and a folding design that takes the drone from 9.10 x 3.85 x 3.75 inches / 231.1 x 98 x 95.4mm when folded to 13.68 x 11.44 x 4.24 / 347.5 x 290.8 x 107.7mm unfolded (excluding propellers). Like the DJI Air 2S, the Mavic 3 also features APAS 5.0 (Advanced Pilot Assistance System). Although I didn’t test this feature, it is said to be DJI’s most advanced autonomous mode yet and capable of guiding the aircraft through dense foliage without crashing.Mavic 3 Pro is C2 certified, and Mavic 3 Classic is C1 certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The Mavic 3 Pro uses the same 5000mAh batteries as previous models. Presumably as a result of the additional weight, advertised flight times have been reduced from 46 to 43 minutes. In testing, flight times weren’t noticeably different and still sit around the 30-minute mark of the other Mavic 3 models, so this is pretty much negligible.

DJI Mavic 3 Cine supports Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 LT and H.264/H.265 encoding, while Mavic 3 only supports H.264/H.265 encoding. If you're feeling particularly flush, there's also the Cine Premium Combo, which sees the drone's storage bumped to 1TB and includes all of the Fly More Combo accessories, plus the new DJI RC Pro controller and two sets of ND filters. Although you shouldn’t, by law, fly beyond ‘line of sight’, the Mavic 3 has a transmission range of 15km (9.32 miles). This means you could feasibly take off on Hampstead Heath in London and fly the drone to Greenwich while receiving a crisp image from the front camera on your phone. Amazing. We’ve even seen an image – we don’t know how legit – that shows a Mavic-like product that includes an array of visual sensors in very similar configuration to the Skydio 2:The Mavic 3 comes armed with obstacle sensors above, below and to the sides. Consequently, its ability to avoid crashing into walls, tree foliage and other large obstructions is second to none. The folded dimensions of the Mavic 3 are 212×96.3x90.3mm, while its unfolded size is 347.5×283x107.7 mm. This makes it similar to the Mavic 2 Pro when folded, with the unfolded size being slightly larger. This controller is larger than the older foldable Mavic 2 controller, but the advantage is improved battery life of up to six hours. The RC Pro controller (above) that comes with the Cine version of the Mavic 3 is essentially a new Smart Controller with a 5.5in touchscreen and offers several other advanced features compared to the standard controller. The basic Mavic 3 gives you 8GB of internal storage and can capture up to 1 billion colors when recording in a 10-bit D-Log color profile. The Cine version features a 1TB SSD since it also offers up the larger files using Apple's ProRes 422 HQ codec. Both versions of the drone can use the full width of their 5.1K sensors. The housing on this dual camera system is lightweight and more suited for its overall size. As mentioned in the introduction, the Mavic 2 Pro had issues with pixel binning and line skipping, and there is no indication of this problem with the Mavic 3 drones.

The main difference between the Standard and Cine versions of the Mavic 3 is that the Standard version provides 8GB of internal storage, while the Cine features an impressive 1TB SSD with support for Apple ProRes 422 HQ video recording. Features and flightIt was also a radical – and we do mean radical –change to the form factor. The Phantom style was ubiquitous at that point, so you can imagine just how revolutionary this was at the time. A phenomenal piece of engineering. An evolution APAS 5.0 – the latest iteration of an autopilot system that automatically detects obstacles – will avoid them by creating a path around them. In the demo given to DPReview by DJI's team, the video shown to us demonstrating APAS 5.0 capabilities was recorded at a maximum resolution of 4K/30p. This is consistent with the Air 2S. If you went to 4K/60 or 120p, the feature will no longer work. DJI says it has updated APAS 5.0 to work properly in more complicated environments, including a congested city. This feature was not yet available for us to test in the beta version of the DJI Fly app. The Mavic 3 Pro Series includes DJI’s first tri-camera flagship drones with multiple focal lengths. It uses the same wide-angle 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera as Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic. Compared with Mavic 3, it adds a 1/1.3-inch CMOS 70mm medium tele camera with 48MP effective pixels. It also has an upgraded 1/2-inch CMOS 166mm tele camera with 12MP effective pixels, providing more flexible aerial photography perspectives while enhancing creative efficiency and freedom.
